2012 Swim Lessons

Learn to swim at the Cape Pool! The Cape St. Claire Swim Club has offered summer swim lessons to the community for over 20 years at a reasonable price in a convenient location.

With no more than six (6) students to an instructor, every child gets the attention they need. Our lessons are grouped by ability at an evaluation (June 15th or June 29th) prior to start of lessons so that every swimmer finds their level.

Our lessons are taught by experienced instructors and coaches with assistance from members of our swim team. All of our instructors have years of swimming experience!

Class times are Monday-Thursday, 10:00-10:30 a.m. or 10:30-11:00 a.m. – for a total of four, thirty-minute lessons.

The time of your child’s lesson will be posted to a link at the bottom of this page prior to the start of the session.

Classes will be cancelled only for pool closure, and made up on Friday of the same week.

Cost: $40 for Members of CSCSC. $50 for non-members of CSCSC

Some young swimmers may need a smaller class of no more than four (4) students. Class placement will be determined at evaluation. If your child is placed in a four student class you will be charged an additional $10, or you may withdraw and receive a refund.

Swim Team Preview

This program is designed for young future Dolphin swimmers who are not quite ready for team but are curious about it and are thinking of joining next season.

This team is for the 5 or 6-year-old who can swim 25 yards, unaided, without stopping or grabbing the side of the pool.

During the two week course the swimmer will increase his or her proficiency and overall skill level. By the end of the course, your swimmer may increase his or her confidence to such a degree that he/she may wish to join the competitive team next year.

This is not a substitute for swim lessons but is meant to give a child who is thinking of joining the team next year a chance to improve their stamina and stroke skills and have the experience of swimming in a team practice environment.

All swimmers registering for Swim Team Preview must be able to swim one length of the pool unaided or have a recommendation from one of our coaches or lessons instructors. Swimmers who cannot meet the minimum requirement should register for Swim Lessons.

Cost: $40 for Members of CSCSC. $50 for non-members of CSCSC

Five days of instruction in a swim team setting. Swimmers will practice alongside the team in a separate lane with their own coach. Included in the fee is AAU membership.

M-F from 9:30 a.m. to 10:00 a.m. July 9 through July 13 (no make-up days)

Swim Lessons FAQs

Are all your lessons in the morning? All lessons take place before the pool opens between 9:30 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. We occasionally receive requests for evening lessons, but that is the time of day when the pool is in greatest demand by its members.

Do you offer private lessons? We do not offer private lessons. However, the class size is limited to six students per instructor.

Do you offer parent assisted classes? We do not offer parent assisted – mommy and me – classes. Children who are not toilet trained are not permitted in the main pool. Any child who is too young to be taught independent of a parent is too young for our classes.

Does my child need to attend an ability evaluation for each session? Each child need attend only one ability evaluation. Your child must attend one of the evaluations before his/her first lesson session. Children who fail to attend an evaluation prior to the session for which they are registered will be removed from the class.

What is the minimum age requirement for lessons at the Cape Pool? All participants must be fully toilet trained, able to follow directions and stay on task, and capable of learning in a group without a parent in the water. Non-swimmers who require extra attention will be placed in a class of no more than 4 students and will be charged an additional $10.
